» Hi there! How are you doing on this amazing day? It has been 4 weeks since we posted the first episode of HOT GIRL SUMMERTIME, which means that we are 4 weeks closer to SUMMER!

» In this blog post, we are going to discuss the last topics for this series: summer hair and skincare routines. So, are you coming?

» Just remember that we are not specialists in these subjects. These are the results of our researches and personal choices. So, before you use any product whether it is for your hair or your skin, we recommend doing your research and, if possible, presenting your options to your doctor to make sure that everything is safe for you :)

» Summer is one of the best times of the year for a lot of people out there. The days are warm, the sun is shining, we can go to the beach… But summertime also means that there are extra cares that we need to go through to make sure that our hairs survive the sun, the ocean, the salt, the chlorine from the pools, and so much more!

» We don´t want you to turn your shiny and healthy hair into a fried mess that we call hair after summer. So, we are going to share with you all of our hair tips, but first a little information about frizzy hair and water damage.

» The ultraviolet rays are especially dangerous for your hair during summer due to its higher concentration. For color-treated hairstyles, your hair might get bleached and faded during summer due to the ultraviolet rays. And even for people with their natural hairs, the sun can dry your hair and create a shaft layer on them.

Everything tends to get worse once your frizzy hair soaks the humidity in the air that will make it swell and break in the edges. It definitely doesn’t sound good!

» As for the water damage, the chlorine that you might found in the pools will love to take from you all of your natural protective oils. Isn’t she the sweetest? :(

And we thought the solution was to choose beach instead, we find ourselves against a new enemy when it is found in heavy concentrations: the salt. This little guy, when it gets all of his friends together, loves to make a party in our hairs, turning them into a parched and dehydrated mess.

» With all of that explained, now it is time to prepare ourselves with secret weapons to enjoy summer and, fight ultraviolet rays and water damage all at once :)

1. Make a pre-summer cut.

Take this advantage before summer and get a new hairstyle for yourself. It will not only scream new beginnings into your everyday life but also help with cutting off any split ends before they get worse.

2. Consider a mid-season/ final season cut.

If your hair is already looking not so good and you are only half-season in, don’t worry! We have a solution for you: a mid-season cut. This will prevent things from getting worse and give you a new style right in the middle of the season :)

We definitely recommend going for a final season cut once summer is over. A new season is coming and your hair has been dealing with water and sun damage, so a cut is a perfect solution attached to a fresh start.

Note: For all of you that just read this and got immediately scared of so much cutting in your hair, just know that you are not alone :) I also like my hair long and when summer comes, and it is time to cut it, I get a little bit scared. But remember that hair grows faster in summer and cutting allows your hair to get healthier, and healthy long hair sounds better than frizzy long hair.

3. Find a product that contains UV filters.

You can find sprays, gels, or even creams with UV filters that will protect your hair from sun damage. Especially with color-treated hairs, this type of product can help in keeping the color from fading during summertime.

Once you have the perfect product for yourself, you just have to be consistent and apply it every day to see the results.

We definitely recommend products with argan oil (it does miracles!). But you can also go for aloe vera, coconut, olive, or avocado oil, they will work too. However, do not apply oils to your scalp, always keep it in the edges.

4. Get yourself a lovely hat.

In our previous blog post, we recommended some summer hats that you can easily find and get for yourself. Hats not only will protect your scalp, ears, face, and other areas from ultraviolet rays, but also protect your shiny hair from the sun.

You can also go for an Olivia Rodrigo’s look with a summer scarf. It is a light and easy way, ready to grab and perfect for a road trip. For more details on scarves, you can check our SPRING TRENS OF 2021: accessories edition.

5. Try to clean your hair with clean water.

What a weird way to say it, isn´t it? :) But what we are trying to say is, if you have a shower near you, after a swim in the pool or in the ocean, go to the shower really quick, just to remove some of the salt or the chemicals.

6. When it is bath time, choose hydration.

Once summer is here, you should switch to moisturizing shampoo and conditioner, to hydrate and smooth your hair.

Experts also recommend investing in conditioners, especially the ones that contain sunscreen to protect your hair from sun rays. Now, there are conditioners for every style and type of hair, so make sure you invest in one that works for you.

7. Body hydrated, hair hydrated.

We have talked about keeping your hair hydrated by using certain products before, but it is also really important to drink water frequently. On our 10 HABITS THAT YOU SHOULD INCORPORATE INTO YOUR DAILY ROUTINE post, we have talked about some of the many benefits of drinking water frequently and this is definitely one of them.

You can also add fresh vegetables and fruits to your diet to complement this. And besides, that, who doesn’t want a fresh piece of fruit while standing on a hot beach?

8. Once a week, remove the chemicals from your life.

We have found some suggestions during our researches saying that at least once a week you should use an anti-residue shampoo to remove any chemicals from your hair followed by a deep-conditioning treatment. Well, this definitely sounds like a spa day for us!

9. Avoid the hot tools.

Warm days and hot tools are not a match for sure! You are already experiencing sweat and dirt from the warm weather, so try to avoid hot tools as much as you can. Take blow dryers, flat irons and curling irons break to heal your hair.

10. It’s braids and messy buns season.

A braid or even a messy bun is the perfect solution to keep your hair together and reduce sun exposure. But don’t forget, always go for loose and comfortable braids instead of tight hairstyles that can easily tear and pull your hair. And that sounds painful!

Oh, and don’t forget that braids and buns can reduce sweat from your scalp, making your hair last longer.

11. A brush and a wet hair storytime.

When your hair is wet, you should not use a regular brush on your beautiful hairstyle. Avoid pulling your hair and damaging it by using a wide-tooth comb to gently untangle your hair.

12. Experts recommend keeping it simple.

While summertime can dry your hair pretty easily, you should not do something that only increases that effect. Avoid any chemical procedure in your hair during summer, especially coloring your hair. But if you want to give some color to your hair, you should do it a month before summertime.

» Even with all of these suggestions, the frizz is probably going to come to visit us anyways. So, we recommend using these tips, but don’t focus on this too much. It is perfectly natural to have some frizzy hair during summertime and definitely don’t keep yourself from fully enjoying your summer because of some frizz. Don’t give him that satisfaction! :)

» Wow this post has turned into too much more than what we were expecting! I guess we have to keep the skincare for summer to next week, but we hope that you have found these tips useful for yourself.

» Always remember that we are not doctors, so it is always better to check with a doctor before you start using any of these tips. Stay safe and inspired for summer everyone! We “see you” next week :)
